John Denver sang it so well in Thank God I’m a Country Boy:
“Well life on the farm is kinda laid back
Ain’t much an old country boy like me can’t hack
It’s early to rise, early in the sack
Thank God I’m a country boy
Well a simple kinda life never did me no harm
A raisin’ me a family and workin’ on a farm
My days are all filled with an easy country charm
Thank God I’m a country boy”
He conveys the peacefulness of living with routine chores and natural surroundings and the pride that country folks have from being able to “hack” it no matter what. He has the ability to convey the love of the country life we celebrate with nature all around us.
We have been venturing outdoors more these past couple weeks as the thermometer creeps higher. Just a short walk down the gravel driveway is enough to soak in the fresh air, clean out our lungs, and leave fun mucky boot print trails. Frosty finger tips and toes are no match for our determination to be happy outdoors after our long winter. Every morning we awaken to less snow outside, and while it is warming up outdoors, it’s really the cool spring winds that are so invigorating and cleansing.
We are definitely happy to enjoy our country outdoors again.
