Before the boys were born, my husband and I would go for a walk every night, be it cold winter or hot summer. It started with just the two of us, grew to include three dogs, and now includes two dogs and two wild animals…exploring boys. Nightly walks are a routine we look forward too, and the dogs usually are great persuaders when we might try to skip a night. The best part is we have no agenda, no school work goal, no time limits. This allows much open conversation and exploring. The pioneer boys formulate ideas and are free to pursue, mom and dad tag along attached to leashes led by exploring dogs, natural treasures are found and thoughts are shared. Last night my youngest brought me a fistful of dandelions and told me they were my wishes. A mother’s wish…. For time to pause in this great moment.
