Yesterday we wandered into the creek and were surprised to find lovely violets….everywhere! I wanted to gather them all up and make violet jelly, but time and space won’t allow for that this trip. Anyhow, another option came to me today, so we grabbed 20 or so blossoms and made candied violets.
First we picked, washed, and then dipped them into egg whites. The boys dropped them in sugar, sprinkled their backs with sugar from spoons, and set them out to dry. There you have it. That’s it. Flower candy for very little effort. I used some to decorate little brownies I made as a thank you for someone, the rest we’ll eat and share at Pioneer Papa’s day job. Although I have found Pioneer Papa to be quite resistant to the whole edible flower thing…..
