We just returned from our very first VISIT to Illinois since our relocation to Tennessee this past summer. After five days visiting five families and two Thanksgiving dinners, we were exhausted. But, I wanted to rally, get home, and decorate for Christmas.
I have found that by decorating the day after Thanksgiving I give myself ample time to enjoy Christmas. It’s not such a rush when I have a few weeks of music, baking, Christmas music, ornament making, and gift making. In a few nights the whole family will sit down and write what we want to accomplish this holiday season. Instead of the traditional daily advent chocolates, we draw a piece of paper with something from our list on it. Day by day we make our holiday wishes come true.
They are usually very simple things, bake a batch of cookies, make a gingerbread house, donate a toy to toys for tots, read our favorite holiday books, and watch our favorite holiday movies. When we break it down day by day Momma doesn’t get so overwhelmed and that sure keeps our holiday mood light and fun.
